Goal #3:  To engage and empower students, families, and communities                 to improve the mental health status through prevention,                         early intervention and by ensuring access to appropriate,                       quality mental health services.

OUR GOALS

The Schools That Care Initiative is funded through the Rural Health Care Services Outreach Program funded by the US Department of Health & Human Services. 

 

The purpose of the grant is to address the increasing need for mental health services in their schools.  Grant activities will focus on prevention and early intervention with students in the areas of behaviorally health, suicide/suicide ideation, depression, bullying/cyber bullying, and alcohol and substance abuse.

Programs that will be offered and implemented within each school are:

*Yellow Ribbon Suicide Prevention Program

*Olweus Bullying Prevention Program

*AlcoholEdu

*Social, Emotional, and Character Development Standards

*Mental Health First Aid

 

The two school districts awarded this grant are USD #380 Vermillion (Centraila Schools, in Centraila, KS and Frankfort Schools in Frankfort, KS) and USD #498 Valley Hieghts (Blue Rapids and Waterville, KS).  Through this grant opportunity, a school social worker was hired to go between the 5 sites of these two districts.
